Grieder and Bongénie

Grieder becomes Bongénie

The history of these two illustrious family firms, imbued with the same values, is closely linked: one established in French-speaking Switzerland and the other in German-speaking Switzerland, both founded by an 'Adolphe', Adolphe Brunschwig in Geneva in 1891 and Adolf Grieder in Zurich in 1889. While Grieder was known for selling precious fabrics and haute couture, Bongénie specialised in a wide range of products, including items for the home. Over time, Bongénie gradually evolved into a top-of-the-range establishment, a trendsetter for fashion enthusiasts. On the other side of the Sarine, in the 1970s, Peter Grieder was considering selling the business, as the economic climate at the time was becoming increasingly difficult. An American group showed an interest in acquiring the company, but in the end it was the Brunschwig family who bought Grieder. The dual logo was used for several years. Today, the adoption of a new visual identity and the move mark the starting point for bringing all the shops together under a single brand: BONGÉNIE, and thus unifying the Bongénie brand throughout Switzerland. From now on, Grieder shops will be known as Bongénie.
